The Spanish Dance Movement Therapy Association (ADMTE – Asociación de Danza Movimiento Terapia España) was established in 2001. It aims to connect DMT professionals and related people, disseminate new contributions and work in this discipline, as well as establish and maintain quality standards and professional competence in Spain. The Spanish Association regulates the profession in this country, following the indications and guidelines of the HYPERLINK “https://eadmt.com/” t “_blank” European Association of Dance Movement Therapy (EADMT) and the HYPERLINK “https://www.adta.org/” t “_blank” American Association of Dance / Movement Therapy (ADTA).
The Spanish Dance Movement Therapy Association was one of the five founding associations of EADMT in 2005 and has been a Full Professional member of EADMT since then. The number of members of the association increased to 40 in the first decade and it continues to grow yearly. There are different types of membership: Member in Training (MF), Associate Member (MA), Registered Titular Member (MTR), Registered Supervisory Member (MSR), Benefactor Member (BM) and Honour Member.
The Spanish Dance Movement Therapy Association is organized in a board, with a maximum of six elected members, and different committees that assume a variety of responsibilities as communication, admissions, continuous training, European representation, research and relationships with other entities. All members working in the association do so on a voluntary basis with the objective of create a communication network between professionals, students and researchers in Dance Movement Therapy, to develop and disseminate this psychotherapeutic discipline and to ensure good practice in the profession.
The Association maintains close relationships with the educational program of the Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona – the only place in Spain that provides certified education in dance movement therapy.
