The Belgian Association of Arts therapy (BVCT) was established in 2009. The work group for dance, movement therapy was formed at the same time.
The BVCT joined the EADMT in 2019 as a full basic member.
There is an executive board of the BVCT, composed of the chairperson from each work group (dance, music, drama, and art). The chairperson of the BVCT also shares a vital role. Each working group has a general board comprised of a chairperson, vice-chairperson, treasurer, secretary and up to two administrative board members.
There are four types of membership: student membership (membership whilst the member is still studying), candidate for full membership (the member has just received her diploma and is in the first phases of work)., After 3-5 years in the industry a therapist may become a registered member.
A registered member has minimal requirements of a bachelor diploma in creative therapy and fulfils the quality requirements of the organisation. A registered therapist adheres to the requirements of the association, work experience, extra studies, supervision and intervision. They consider the ethical code of the BVCT. Those who see the importance of the organisation and wish to show their support by paying extra are considered ‘interested members’. These members pay more than the standard fee and are given privileges.
