The Lithuanian Dance Movement Therapy Association was established in 2011. Continuous progress was made towards the bigger aim during the first decade with the Association reaching maturity during the years of 2019 and 2020. In 2019 the Arts Therapy Masters programme was established including a Dance Movement Therapy specialisation (as well as Music and Drama therapies). In 2020 two more milestones were reached: the National Ministry of Health finally approved Dance Movement Therapy as a legal profession and in parallel the Lithuanian DMT association became a member of EADMT.
The goals of the Lithuanian Dance Movement Therapy Association are to continue developing Dance Movement Therapy as a profession, science, service and discipline, to unite and coordinate the activities of its members, to represent and defend their interests. The activities and plans of the Association include: cooperation with Lithuanian and foreign higher education institutions and other professional associations; cooperation with international colleagues; organising and taking part in international scientific and practical conferences, seminars and trainings; participating in project activities; aiming to implement DMT as a service in various state and non-state educational, care, nursing and other institutions.
Currently there are twenty association members, and this number will grow as new MA graduates join every year.
