What is Dance Movement Therapy (DMT)?
DMT is defined by the European Association Dance Movement Therapy (EADMT) as ‘the therapeutic use of movement to further the emotional, cognitive, physical, spiritual and social integration of the individual.
5th EADMT conference, September 12-14, 2025, Vilnius, Lithuania
In 2025 EADMT celebrates its 15th anniversary. Now we witness a coming of age of DMT throughout Europe and worldwide, from its early years into a fuller maturity in the context of an increasingly unpredictable world.
As DMT’s we are convinced that our work can facilitate a re-balancing of social connectivity and intrapsychic well-being vs social isolation and damaged physical and mental health due to increasing environmental, technological and other pressures including wars and catastrophic events of the last few years.
This conference will focus on the necessity of making our profession more visible, of clarifying one of our therapeutic goals, fostering human vitality and finally, we want to open up spaces to create visions of DMT for the future in these challenging times.
Themes and subthemes
Future development of the profession concerns our global Visibility and how we present ourselves to the world, to International Regulatory Bodies, National Governments, Parliaments and Institutions including Public and Social Media.
Vitality or lack of it in the body, the feeling of being alive is core to how DMT works in relation to it. This with particular regard to how Stern (2010) conceives of the forms of vitality through the dynamics of movement, time, force, space and intention/directionality. How are we applying and fostering these various vitality affects in our work?
To have Vision concerns the future development of our profession going forward with insight, imagination and wisdom?
