The Swedish Dance Therapy Association

Svenska föreningen för dansterapi

Identity

The Swedish association was officially formed in 1985 by pioneers educated in DMT in the USA or as dancers. From the start the main focus was to develop a national DMT education program. In the mid 1980´s that was succeeded together with New York University. 1991 our first all national course in DMT started at the University of Dance in Stockholm, these courses ceased in 2010. The Swedish association works closely with Karlstad University where the only existing courses in DMT are given. These courses have developed gradually since 2009. We also organize and participate in different events connected with DMT– trainings, conferences and projects.

The Swedish association brings together DMT professionals and students and is composed of professional and supporting members. Our main goal is to contribute to the development of dance movement therapy in our society by working towards an education following the standard criteria formed by EADMT, raising awareness of dance movement therapy on all levels in Sweden and gaining recognition by the state. The association also maintain a public register of qualified dance movement therapist.

Our growing community is still quite small but closely connected and slowly growing.
Sweden became a member of the EADMT 2011 and are now associated members.
